New category names

I'd like to add the ability for moderators to add and edit categories in the near future, and maybe add support for tags as well. A way to make threads private or choose who can see. The search still doesn't work, ah the fun tasks to look forward to are endless.

Anyway, even if we do add that functionality. What do you guys think are some good categories worth adding. I was thinking of adding a 'Music' category--we should be able to attach zipped Ableton folders if we wanted to do some music production stuff on here. Maybe a 'Money' category, since that tends to come up a lot.

Don't think we need a 'Feedback' category.
'Money' and 'Music' are good ideas.

We should lean toward making category names more inclusive of a broader range of topics as each thread will be something more specific. Maybe NEW categories should get 3/4 approval before being created to avoid having too many categories.

Tags are great in theory but should be restricted to existing categories. Best would be "Choose one or more Categories" when you click the "Start a Thread" button. We could include an option there to "Add new Category" that will alert other moderators of the new suggestion. If that is the only field checked, the thread would go under ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ until the new Category is approved. Wow, I'm going ape-shit with this idea but it would be cool though.

Those sound like good suggestion to me, totally do-able. Thinking of the best way to do it: adding a column to Categories called "approval_votes," then just having the ID of the users that approve--then a simple math method for checking the number of moderators and dividing by the IDs of approved_vote users, if that number is over 50% then it's approved. Pretty easy, I think, then just a model method that returns a boolean using the above method called "approved." If it's approved then it shows up. What would the rule be for taking back votes, though. Maybe you can only vote once, and if you click the vote button the first thing it does is check if your user_id is already in the list of approval_votes.

ANYWAY, I vote 'yay' on the initial suggestions.

ALSO, regarding 'subscribed.' There is no method that automatically adds to you the subscriptions, right now.

I think making this work would be as easy as changing this line to:

def subscribed_users
([user] + optin_subscribers + forum_posts.map(&:user)).uniq - optout_subscribers
end

Then it would all make sense. What I can't bother to figure out right now is: does it say 'subscribe' or 'unsubscribe' BEFORE you have made a post. And what does it say AFTER you have added a post. Because, the other way to fix this issue would be just make sure the default button is an 'subscribe' button, even if you've made a post in the thread.

Yeah, mostly awesome! You need to escape that backslash on the shrug though or use an html entity. Also "Discussion"? I don't know. I mean I know what you mean but...maybe 'ideas', 'philosophy', 'reality', theories', 'conjecture' for that cagegory??? 'Discussion' covers the whole forum.
